Peter and Julie are a husband and wife team with 45 years experience both as competitors and teachers.

Julie grew up in Birmingham where she started competing in Freestyle from an early age. She continued to dance after moving to Weston-super-Mare and was one of the top 6 dancers in the country in couples and solos and she was also a member of the winning Freestyle team at the British National Championships.
She has trained freestyle teams, pairs and soloists for the Nationwide Championships in Blackpool, with a number of her pupils coming first and several finalists. She now judges at major freestyle championships.
Julie gained her Ballroom and Latin teaching qualifications at the age of 20 and still enjoys seeing one of her nervous beginners gain the confidence to take their partner round the floor. From these first steps,  many have gone on to take dance exams up to the highest levels in both ballroom and Latin.
Peter was introduced to dancing as part of his primary school PE lessons where he ended up being part of the country dancing display team, which appeared at many local village fêtes.

Peter went to Imperial College, London to study aeronautical engineering. He joined the competitive dance team and enjoyed the dancing so much that after his first year, he changed degree and studied Dance and Drama at Roehampton Institute while continuing to compete for Imperial. Between degrees he discovered Ceroc, won the National French Jive Championships and became one of the first twelve Taxi Dancers.
Having been part of the winning National Student Team at Imperial for two years, Peter competed on the open circuit for a further two years, first in 10-dance and then focussing on Latin.
He then took his qualifications and returned to Imperial, coaching the winning Beginners' Team in his first year, continuing on to become the lead Latin coach. Several of his pupils went on to take dance exams up to the highest levels.
Peter and Julie founded PJ's Dance Academy in 2003. Welcome.
